Terah was called to develop his camp in Canaan but he chooses to settle in Haran. Halfway to his destination point. Genesis 11:31 records this poor choice.
Genesis 11:31 NLT “One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there. 32Terah lived for 205 years and died while still in Haran”
If the Israelites were already in Canaan they wouldn’t have had to spend entire lifetimes (Joshua’s) and generations after fighting the enemy to take what was already theirs/what already belong to them/God’s decree for their lives, family, and nation.
If they were already in the land God had promised to them just think what more they could have done for the kingdom of God and the land of Israel. Instead, they ended up being in constant turmoil and continuously fighting. Think of how many lives could have been spared. And even worse, how many lives were not birthed because it is possible that certain connections were not made because the Israelites were out of place and not on time.
It’s such a lie to believe that your decisions only affect you. That is not so. “It’s a harmless decision.” “This doesn’t affect anyone but myself.” All lies from the enemy. There are ripple effects on every decision. We see it so illustrated in the Garden, and we see it here. God was trying to get them back to a land flowing with milk and honey and into a safe, beautiful, prosperous place to overwrite the wrongs committed in the Garden. These types of decisions you make will be felt for multiple generations to come. You are affecting your bloodline with every decision you make.
Joshua fought and conquered 31 kings and their territories. Israelites were still fighting to take land even after the death of Joshua. He lived to be 110 years old. Interestingly, Terah gave up in verse 31 and Joshua was called to defeat 31 kings.
Terah not taking his place in the land also allowed the devil to take over, for some time, what did not belong to him. He comes to murder, steals, and destroys. Persuading Terah to stop short of the promise and blessing of God allowed the devil to get a foothold in the promised land.
The devil manipulated Adam and Eve into giving up their God-ordained place in the Garden of Eden and just so with Terah. Stop allowing the devil to persuade you to give up something special that God has promised you.
The devil will always use fear, half-truths, and doubt to set his trap for you to give up your destiny. The devil is very strategic and crafty and he is always trying to take down a loaded vault. If he is after you, that means there is something great inside of you he is trying to prevent from manifesting. Take that as your confirmation you are on the right track and will soon be producing and fulfilling the call of God on your life. The devil is a liar and accuser of the brethren. If he is on your tail, and clouding your thought life and throwing demon gangs your way - you’re doing the right thing. Just remember demons tremble in fear in the presence of Jesus. And, His power lives on the inside of you. If demons are not trembling in fear of you, you need to tap into the power source of God more. You have dominion over them through Jesus and the dunamis power of the Holy Spirit.
What are you not following through with that is allowing the enemy to take territory in your life?
It is important to remember he hates you and me. He wants nothing more than to steal everything God has given and promised to give to us, He wants to manipulate you into giving him control over every aspect of your life only then to turn around and murder. He does not have any control or authority or power unless you decide to give it to Him. He roams about like a lion seeking whom he may devour. However, he can only devour those who are willing to be devoured. It’s time to take back your land and territory and allow God to give you restitution.
It’s important to look at your actions and words. Where you are giving the devil a legal right to be? Is it in your finances? Is it in your marriage? Is it in choices that will greatly determine your future? Will your children and children’s children be happy with the decisions you are making right now?
If not, it’s time to change. List two areas you are committed to taking back control of in your life.
