Gen 22:1-14 NLT - Abraham’s Faith Tested
1"Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called.
“Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.”
2“Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”
3The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. 4On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5“Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”
6So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac’s shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them walked on together, 7Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?”
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?”
8“God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.
9When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. 10And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. 11At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”
“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!”
12“Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”
13Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
15Then the angel of the Lord called again to Abraham from heaven. 16“This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that 17I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. 18And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.”
19Then they returned to the servants and traveled back to Beersheba, where Abraham continued to live.
20Soon after this, Abraham heard that Milcah, his brother Nahor’s wife, had borne Nahor eight sons. 21The oldest was named Uz, the next oldest was Buz, followed by Kemuel (the ancestor of the Arameans), 22Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel."
Testing before promises can be fulfilled, He needs to know you are ready and can be trusted. He also doesn’t want the capacity and fullness of increase to crush you at the next level. You need the correct level of strength and trust to be successful and prepared for the increase.
Never be scared to lay down or give up anything or anything the Lord is calling you to lay down at His feet. It may hurt at first but it is only for your benefit and His glory!
God always provides the sacrifice —- we can offer our trust and obedience.
God expects our obedience to move to the next level — Do what He is telling you to do and go where He is telling you to go PROMPTLY and don’t try to dictate to God the terms and conditions for you to move to the Lord’s will - when He says jump you say "Sir, Yes Sir.".
If you think yea well, that was Abraham, the Father of our Faith, and I’m just me. What makes me think that God will do it for me too?
Romans 2:11 “For God does not show favoritism” God is not a respecter of persons. Therefore, you have legal access and precedence that whatever good you see in the Bible you too can lay hold of thought Christ.
Gal 6:6 “Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.”
2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”
2 Thessalonians 1:7 “And God will provide rest for who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels”
Jesus fed the multitude the bread and fish that he multiplied. He provided food, the daily provision. Jesus who is our daily bread will always feed you continually for your spirit, soul, and body.
Matthew 15:32-39 NLT - Jesus Feeds Four Thousand
"32Then Jesus called his disciples and told them, “I feel sorry for these people. They have been here with me for three days, and they have nothing left to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry, or they will faint along the way.”
33The disciples replied, “Where would we get enough food here in the wilderness for such a huge crowd?”
34Jesus asked, “How much bread do you have?”
They replied, “Seven loaves, and a few small fish.”
35So Jesus told all the people to sit down on the ground. 36Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, thanked God for them, and broke them into pieces. He gave them to the disciples, who distributed the food to the crowd.
37They all ate as much as they wanted. Afterward, the disciples picked up seven large baskets of leftover food. 38There were 4,000 men who were fed that day, in addition to all the women and children. 39Then Jesus sent the people home, and he got into a boat and crossed over to the region of Magadan."
God tells you to do something, you look at your finite resources and realize you don’t have enough to fulfill the request, so you ask Him, “God, where are to get _____?” or it is how, etc; Jesus will then ask you what do you already have that I have provided for you in advance, what is in your hand, just like He asked Moses, and you will always have something, whatever that gives it over to the Lord obediently and quickly, then rest and give thanks to Him and then the Lord will multiply your efforts.
Do you not remember? Have you forgotten all the time God has provided for you before? What makes you doubt this time? Ask and pray for God to remove all the doubt completely from your heart and yourself.
Last week we discussed Jesus being our Good Shepherd. As our Shepherd, it is His responsibility to provide for the sheep or us. Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.” <—- Provision.
We DO NOT need to rely on worldly efforts. We have a much better system for provision and breakthrough. He is name is JESUS.
