Bible Study Week 1 - The Goodness
Pray.
What is your current thought process when you think of the goodness, the greatness, and/or the majesty of God? What do you think is the greatest part of God?
Psalm 34:8 “O Taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him.”
There are over 100 names in the Bible for God. We will be going over 4.
Identity is so important in God. We must first know who He is to understand ourselves. His very breath is inside of our bodies. He made us in His image. So, know how great God is is to also know how great He made us to be.
Elohim - “God” - Hebrew, most common name in New Testament - plural - to magnify his greatness - that he is the one true God above all other Gods in reference to the Old Testament - also works in reference in the Trinity in the New Testament - appears over 2,500 times in Old Testament - Infinite, All-powerful God, Mighty Creator
Becomes shortened to “El” and is used in His other names - for example - El Shaddai “God Almighty” - Can you name two more of His other names starting with “El”?
Deut 4:35 “To you, it was shown, that you might realize and have personal knowledge that the Lord is God; there is no other besides Him.” - Proves His dominance and majesty and the one true God. “Yahweh is Elohim.” (gotquestions.org)
Gen 1:26 “Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will weigh over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
Gen 3:22 “Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God (Elohim) after the birth of Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters.”
Isaiah 6:8 “Also, I heard the voice of the Lord (Elohim), saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for Us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
Psalm 106:1-2 “Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever! Who can put into words and tell the mights deeds of the Lord? Or who can show forth all the praise [that is due Him?]”
This gives us identity and purpose - God’s use of pronouns is very important and interlocked to His names, who He is, and His self-identity - this could also be speculated why there is such a current shirt and war on identity and pronouns. What do you think about that?
A preventive measure for us is to not repeat the bad actions or habits of the Israelites, for example, Psalm 106:21 “They forgot God their Savior, Who had done such great things in Egypt.” - God rescued them from slavery, and Passover and parted the Red Sea, etc. Has there ever been a point in your life where you have forgotten about the power and majesty and all-working power of God? If so, how? How did you remedy the situation?
